EMFs are everywhere, so how do you reduce your emf exposure and why do you want to reduce your expsoure?
What are EMFs?
EMF stands for electromagnetic field. An electromagnetic field is a field of radiation produced by electricity and magnetism.
There are natural and unnatural (man-made) emfs. The ones we are concerned about for health reasons are man-made.
Man-made emfs include the electrical and wireless communications that are around us. This includes things such as wifi, cell phones, the wiring in our walls, utility meters on our homes and much more.
Effects of EMFs on Health
EMF exposure can cause many health issues, these are just a few:
- fatigue
- sleeplessness
- headaches
- cancer
- heart palipitations
- depression
- skin burning
- itching
- brain fog
- rashes
- infertility
- digestive disorders
- aches and pains
- inflammation
- DNA damage
and so much more.
Americans For Safe Technology has a compilation of studies on the effects of EMFs on health. The Environmental Health Trust also has a lot of science in one place if that is something you want to dive into.

How do we reduce EMFs?
There are several different practices that can be implemented as well as different devices that can be used to help reduce emf exposure as well the effects of emfs when there is no option to avoid the EMFs.
Limit Exposure
- Limit use of cell phones, wifi, computers and other electronic devices
- Live as far away from cell towers as possible
- Sleep with your cell phone in another room
- Get rid of smart meters
- Reduce dirty electricity
Smart TVs and Gaming Systems
Simply turning off gaming systems and smart tvs does not stop them from attempting to communicate with the wifi (creating EMFs). Even if the wifi is off they will continue to ping and try to communicate with the wifi. Smart TVs and gaming systems need to be unplugged to stop them from pinging.
Wifi
For Wifi routers it is best if they can be turned off when not in use.
There are options to reduce the EMFs when the wifi is on as well. In my home I use a wifi router guard from Smart Meter Guard. The router guard greatly reduces the EMFs coming from the router while still allowing the wifi to be used. It does reduce the distance the wifi covers, so keep that in mind.
Cell Phones
The further your cell phone is from you the better. This means when talking on the phone, if at all possible, use speaker phone, so the phone is further away.
At night put your cell phone in airplane mode or put it in a totally different room.
If you don’t need bluetooth turn it off, same for wifi and cell service. Having bluetooth, wifi or cell service on increases the EMFs coming from the cell phone, so turn off what you can.
Headphones
Ditch the bluetooth headphones and instead go for a corded air tube headphones. There are options that go in the ears as well as ones that go over the ears.
Air tube headphones are different than other corded headphones. Air tube headphoones use hollow tubes to deliver sound from the speakers to the ears, reducing the exposure to electromagnetic radiation.
Cell Towers
Use AntennaSearch to find what cell towers and antennas are near your home. It also gives the distance that different towers and antennas are from your home. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do to about towers and antennas aside from trying to not live by them.

Smart Meters
Check the utility meters on your home, are they smart meters?
If they are smart meters they are transmitting frequently to the grid. An emf meter can tell you how often and the exact levels coming from the smart utility meter. Each spike on the emf meter is the utility meter transmitting.
The best way to handle smart meters is to contact the utility company and ask them to switch the meter out to an analog meter. Chances are they will not switch it to an analog meter, but instead to a nontransmitting meter, but sometimes people get lucky and get analog. Some companies won’t push back, while others will give you a very hard time about changing it. Some companies will charge a monthly fee, like our electric company who charges 3 dollars a month to have a nontransmitting meter.
Another option is to buy a mesh metal cover or copper coated cover from Smart Meter Guard. These reduce the radiation, but don’t totally get rid of it. However, they are much better than nothing. If you buy a cover make sure it is securely attached. I had one for our gas meter that the company refused to change out and it worked so well they couldn’t read the meter remotely and my cover mysteriously went missing.
Dirty Electricity
If anyone on your electricity grid has a nonanalog meter, then you have a level of dirty electricity in your home.
Dirty electricity is an erratic form of electromagnetic interference (EMI), that is created as electric devices operate. ‘Dirty’ refers to variations (spikes and surges) in the voltage and frequency. This is hard on the human body and it is hard on appliances as well.
Dirty electricity can be measured with an EMI meter such as this one. There are filters that can be plugged into outlets that filter the electricity to decrease the dirty electricity. It is extremely important to test the dirty electricity levels with an EMI meter as the filters are installed, so that they get put in the correct spots.
In my home I plugged Greenwave filters in the appropriate outlets and they really cut down the dirty electricity!
Another option for dirty electricity is a Sinetamer. The cost for this is more, but if you have a large home it may end up being cheaper than buying all of the individual filters. The Sinetamer needs to be installed by an electrician, unlike the Greenwave filters, which anyone can do. So keep that in mind as well.

Countering EMFs
- Grounding
- Whole house protection
Ground yourself
No not putting yourself in time out. Get outside barefoot away from man-made electricity and magnetism. This helps to balance the electrons in the body.
Get a grounding mat like this one for your bed. I have this in the full size and works to cover most of my king size bed so that everyone sleeping on the bed gets the benefits of grounding at night.

Whole House Protection
One of the best ways to reduce EMF exposure is to counter the EMFs in your home with a device such as a blushield or orgone. I have both in my home and they are amazing!
Orgone can come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, but generally it is in the shape of a pyramid. It has several different components to it that all work together to counter EMFs. Do be mindful of where you buy orgone from as there are several different makers who are witches and use other questionable practices.
Blushield is an electronic device that you plug in or charge depending on which model you get. I have one for my home as well as for my vehicle. The blushield emits a scalar field that is harmonious to the body and the body listens to this over the EMFs to minimize the harm from EMF exposure. How to Reduce EMF Exposure in Your Bedroom
Your bedroom is the place in your home that you spend the most time. It is where you sleep and sleep is meant to be restorative making it very important that your sleep space has as low of EMF levels it possibly can.
In addition to everything we talked about above you want to reduce the EMFs in your sleep space as much as possible. How do you do that?
First thing is to make sure there are no electronics in the bedroom such as a computer, printer, smart tv or cell phone and that they aren’t on the other side of the bedroom wall.
Next is to not have the bed right against the bedroom wall. Instead make sure when you lay down at night your head is at least a foot from the wall to minimize the EMFs from the wiring in the walls.
Check were the cords are in the room as EMFs do come off of plugged in cords as well. Are there any running under the bed? If there are, is there a way to relocate them?
If there are outlets by the bed make sure nothing is plugged into the outlets when you are sleeping.
Get a grounding matt for the bed and make sure to test it.
Reducing Heavy Metals
The negative effects of EMFs are increased by heavy metals in the body. If you haven’t done a heavy metal detox recently here is your sign to do one as long as you aren’t nursing or pregnant and your detox pathways are open.
Even with avoiding things like shots, and amalgam fillings (the silver ones) we still get exposed to heavy metals, so doing a detox regularly is important.
My favorite ways to detox heavy metals are with herbs such as Love Bug Organic’s Detox Herbal Tincture.
My other favorite way to detox heavy metals is with zeolites. My family uses Pure Body and Pure Body Xtra as it is a natural zeolite that has been cleaned instead of a lab created zeolite. The zeolites are different size cages that trap the heavy metals and pull them out of the body.
It is always important when doing any type of detox to make sure the body is also getting lots of great nutrition to support the body’s detoxing.
What a super informative list. I never even though about heavy metals in the body interacting with EMFs. Thanks for the read!
